AJAX, ON – La Leche League Canada is marking 65 years of supporting Canadian families with a special anniversary event in Ajax this fall.
The national organization will host its 65th anniversary celebration Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the St. Francis Centre for the Arts in Ajax.
The event is open to parents, health-care professionals, volunteers, community partners and others interested in supporting families. The day will include presentations, opportunities to connect with other attendees, morning refreshments and a catered lunch.
Presentations from the event will also be recorded and shared through La Leche League Canada’s YouTube channel, allowing families and health-care professionals across the country to access the information following the celebration.
La Leche League’s history in Canada dates back to 1961, when a group is believed to have opened in Jonquière, Quebec. The first Canadian group that can be definitively dated began meeting in Edmonton in January 1964. The organization later expanded across the country, providing peer-to-peer breastfeeding support and education.
Today, La Leche League Canada is a registered charity whose trained volunteer leaders provide evidence-based breastfeeding information and support through in-person and virtual meetings, prenatal classes and one-on-one assistance. Its informal group meetings and individual support are offered free of charge.
Tickets for the anniversary event are $35 for one person or $50 for two people.
Admission includes morning refreshments and a catered lunch. Door prizes and La Leche League Canada merchandise will also be available during the event.
