The Halton Hills Public Library is expanding its fine-free borrowing program to include parents and guardians of children aged 17 and under.
The change is aimed at reducing barriers to library access and builds on previous fine-free initiatives for children and youth, adults aged 18 to 29, and adults aged 65 and older.
The library says removing overdue fines for parents and guardians will make it easier for families to borrow books, movies, technology and other educational resources while supporting family literacy and lifelong learning.
Parents and guardians who have children aged 17 and under can visit any Halton Hills Public Library branch to have their account updated and confirm their eligibility.
While overdue fines will no longer apply to eligible borrowers, library materials are still expected to be returned on time. Courtesy reminders will continue to be sent before due dates, and long-overdue items will still be considered lost and subject to replacement charges under the library’s borrowing policies.
