An Oakville man involved in youth minor hockey has been charged following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of an underage female.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) says their investigation determined the teenage victim met with the accused in Oakville in late 2025, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
On Sunday, July 19th, investigators arrested 25-year-old Canaan (Cane) Meister. He is charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.
Meister was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
Police say Meister is currently involved with youth minor hockey in the Oakville and Burlington areas and have released his identity because investigators believe there may be additional victims.
Anyone with information about the investigation, or who believes they may have been victimized by the accused, is asked to contact the Halton Regional Police Service Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit or Crime Stoppers.
Police also remind the public there is no statute of limitations for reporting sexual assault, meaning incidents can be reported regardless of how much time has passed. Victims of violence or sexual assault can also contact the Halton Regional Police Service Victim Services Unit for support.
Additional information can be found in the HRPS Sexual Assault Information Guide.
