The Town of Milton will recognize National Drowning Prevention Week next week with a series of free events aimed at promoting water safety and lifesaving skills throughout the community.
Organized annually by the Lifesaving Society, National Drowning Prevention Week raises awareness about drowning prevention and encourages safe practices around water.
It’s officially running from Sunday, July 19th to Saturday, July 25th.
Former participants of the Town’s Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross programs are invited to take part in a free registered Lifesaving/Lifeguard Competition on Friday, July 24th, from 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Rotary Park Pool. Participants will complete rescue simulations designed to refresh their lifesaving skills.
Residents can also visit free Lifesaving Information Booths where trained lifeguards will demonstrate how to call 9-1-1, perform CPR on adults and infants, and use a throw line to assist someone in trouble in the water. Booths will be held:
- Tuesday, July 21st, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Milton Leisure Centre
- Wednesday, July 22nd, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Sherwood Community Centre
- Thursday, July 23rd, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Milton Leisure Centre
- Friday, July 24th, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Rotary Park
The Town will also offer free fun swims on a first-come, first-served basis at the Milton Leisure Centre on Tuesday, July 21st, and Thursday, July 23rd, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:25 p.m., giving residents an opportunity to enjoy the water in a safe, supervised environment with certified lifeguards on duty.
