The Town of Milton will receive $8.4 million from the Ontario government through the third round of the Building Faster Fund after surpassing its provincially assigned housing target in 2025.
According to the province, Milton broke ground on 2,699 new homes last year, exceeding its annual housing target by 28%. Municipalities that achieve at least 80% of their assigned housing targets are eligible for funding through the program.
The funding is intended to help municipalities build infrastructure that supports new housing and community growth.
“I applaud the Town of Milton’s commitment to building more homes in support of their growing community,” says Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “As we look to the future, our government will continue creating the conditions municipal partners like Milton need to kickstart the housing sector. More shovels in the ground mean greater affordability, more people working, and a stronger economy.”
Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz notes the funding will support key infrastructure projects needed to accommodate growth.
“Milton Council appreciates the Ontario government’s investment through the Building Faster Fund,” says Krantz. “This commitment will help deliver essential infrastructure — from stormwater systems to road expansion and renewal — that supports housing in our growing community. It will also play a key role in advancing connected, complete neighbourhoods and reinforcing Milton as a Place of Possibility.”
The Building Faster Fund was introduced in 2023 as a three-year program worth up to $1.2 billion, rewarding municipalities that make significant progress toward provincial housing targets.
The province says it is also supporting housing construction through measures such as the Building Homes and Improving Transportation Infrastructure Act, 2026, the HST Relief Implementation Act (Residential Property Rebates), 2026, and the Development Charge Reduction Program.
“This $8.4 million investment through the Building Faster Fund recognizes Milton’s leadership in planning for growth and building the infrastructure our community needs,” says Milton MPP Zee Hamid. “This funding will help create more housing opportunities for families, support a stronger and more connected community, and ensure Milton remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”
The province also announced that municipalities will now have until 2028 to spend Building Faster Fund allocations.
According to the Ontario government, housing construction across the province continues to increase. From January to May 2026, Ontario recorded 26,084 housing starts, up 17.2% compared with the same period in 2025. During that same period, 13,599 rental housing starts were recorded, representing a 94.9% increase and the highest number of rental starts ever recorded for that time of year. There was no mention of how that has impacted the cost of living for renters, either positively or negatively.
The province also noted it is investing nearly $35 million through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program for projects across Halton Region expected to support approximately 28,000 new homes, including more than $10 million for the Town of Milton.
