A Hamilton man is facing multiple charges after the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) investigated a series of residential break-ins and attempted break-ins in Burlington’s Palmer neighbourhood.
The incidents occurred during the morning of May 23rd, when a suspect targeted six homes in the neighbourhood. Investigators allege the suspect successfully entered two residences and unsuccessfully attempted to break into four others.
Police say the entries were made through unlocked rear patio doors. Credit cards, bank cards and other property were stolen from the homes and were later used to make unauthorized purchases in Burlington and Hamilton.
The investigation was taken over by the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau, which identified a suspect.
On Tuesday, June 23rd, investigators executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a Hamilton residence, where the suspect was arrested. Officers also recovered multiple pieces of evidence, including stolen electronics and jewelry.
As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old King Umuhizi of Hamilton has been charged with:
- Two counts of break and enter
- Four counts of attempted break and enter
- Three counts of fraud under $5,000
- One count of failing to comply with probation
Umuhizi was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
