The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has introduced its newest canine team member
K9 Cache is a specially trained Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) dog that helps investigators locate hidden electronic devices during criminal investigations.
Cache (pronounced “Cash”) is a Labrador retriever trained to detect concealed electronic storage devices, including cell phones, tablets, hard drives, USB drives, memory cards, hidden cameras and GPS tracking devices during the execution of search warrants and vehicle searches.
According to the HRPS, Cache is one of only 10 Electronic Storage Detection dogs currently operating in Canada.
Cache was initially selected and trained by Jordan Detection K9 in the United States through a five-month specialized training program before being donated to the Halton Regional Police Service by OUR Rescue, a non-profit organization focused on combating child sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
The police service said Cache’s primary role is to assist investigators working on child sexual exploitation and human trafficking cases by locating electronic evidence that may otherwise remain hidden.
In addition to her investigative duties, Cache has also been trained to provide comfort and wellness support to victims of crime, their families and officers involved in sensitive investigations.
“Since becoming operational in March of 2026, K9 Cache has proven to be an invaluable asset, helping our investigators locate concealed electronic evidence with continued success,” says HRPS Deputy Chief Jeff Hill, Investigative and Frontline Support Services. “Her specialized abilities have proven to be a significant resource that will enhance and strengthen the overall effectiveness of our investigative operations.”
