Milton teens interested in writing and storytelling will have an opportunity to learn from an award-nominated Canadian author this weekend.
Susan Currie will visit the Milton Public Library for a special workshop titled Fiction with a Twist.
Designed for youth ages 13 to 17, the session will explore how personal experiences can be transformed into fictional stories. Currie will discuss her writing process and share insights from several of her books, including Iz the Apocalypse, Fierce Voice, and her upcoming novel Manifesto, scheduled for release in 2027.
Participants will also take part in a hands-on writing exercise, developing a short fictional scene inspired by moments from their own lives.
Currie brings a diverse background to the event. A Cayuga-Acadian educator with more than 25 years of teaching experience, she holds a master’s degree in English Literature and has worked as a music director, accompanist, choir director, vocal coach and piano teacher. She is also the author of several fiction and non-fiction titles, including works focused on Indigenous history and culture.
Her books have received recognition through numerous Canadian literary award programs, including nominations for the White Pine Award, the Silver Birch Award, and the Hackmatack Award.
The event runs from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27th at the Main Library’s Children’s Program Room and Teal Room.
