Residents looking to get outdoors and support local environmental efforts can take part in an invasive species removal event in Milton this weekend.
Sustainable Milton is hosting an Invasive Species Pull that will focus on removing buckthorn, an invasive plant species that can outcompete native vegetation and reduce habitat and food sources for local wildlife.
Volunteer hours are available for those who need them.
Anyone participating for the first time this year must complete required waiver and permission forms before attending. Participants under 18 must have a permission form signed by a parent or guardian. Organizers note that the forms are sometimes filtered into email junk folders.
Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes, as the work will take place in wooded and overgrown areas where scratches and ticks may be present.
That’s on Saturday, June 20th, from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the trail area behind Sam Sherratt Public School. Participants will meet at Coulson Park, located at 754 Coulson Avenue in Milton.
