Residents across Halton and Hamilton are being invited to share their experiences and challenges through a new community survey launched by United Way Golden Horseshoe.
The “What Serves Us” survey is part of a broader research initiative aimed at gaining a better understanding of the issues affecting local individuals and families, including housing, affordability, food insecurity, mental health, community connection and access to support services.
United Way says the information gathered will help guide future strategies, strengthen partnerships and ensure programs continue to respond to changing community needs.
“Communities are changing quickly, and the pressures facing individuals and families continue to grow,” says Kayla Willett, Director, Community Engagement & Programming, United Way Golden Horseshoe. “This survey is about listening directly to people with lived and living experience so we can better understand what supports are working, where gaps exist, and how we can continue building stronger, more connected communities together.”
The project is being conducted in partnership with Brighter Spark, a Hamilton-based consulting firm that works with businesses, non-profits and public-sector organizations.
According to organizers, early feedback from community engagement sessions has highlighted concerns around social isolation, limited support networks and the need for coordinated services. Participants have also emphasized that many challenges are interconnected and often require access to multiple supports rather than a single program or resource.
United Way says the survey is part of a larger engagement effort that also includes community conversations and local survey events aimed at making participation more accessible.
Community organizations, social service agencies and grassroots groups interested in hosting a survey-taking event are encouraged to contact the project team.
Residents can complete the survey online here.
