The Milton Public Library (MPL) is inviting residents to make the most of the season with the launch of “Your Library. Your Summer.”
It’s a community-wide initiative focused on reading, exploration, learning and giving back.
Beginning June 13th, MPL will offer a variety of summer programs for all ages, including the return of the TD Summer Reading Club, Teen Summer Reading Club, Adult Summer Reading Club, the Read and Ride program in partnership with Milton Transit, and the Summer of Giving Campaign supporting the Milton Community Resource Centre’s Infant Food Bank.
The TD Summer Reading Club, Canada’s largest bilingual summer reading program, will run from June 13th to August 21st. Children ages 0 to 12 can participate through pre-reader and school-age streams using the Beanstack platform to track reading, earn digital badges and enter prize draws throughout the summer.
Teens ages 13 to 17 can also take part by logging reading activities, earning badges and collecting entries for prize draws.
Adults can join a water-themed reading challenge featuring activity maps, reading adventures and opportunities to earn prizes. Participants who complete a challenge map can pick up another and continue throughout the summer.
“Every year, we see thousands of people across our community take part in summer reading and learning initiatives, and that continued engagement inspires us,” says Sarah Douglas-Murray, CEO of Milton Public Library. “Last year alone, more than 14,000 participants joined our summer programs, helping create a season filled with creativity, connection, and discovery.”
The popular Read and Ride program will also return on June 13th. Through a partnership with Milton Transit, youth ages 16 and under can ride Milton Transit free of charge throughout the summer by showing a validated Milton Public Library card when boarding.
Validation stickers will be available at all library branches beginning June 13th, and the program will continue through September 6th.
The Milton Public Library is also once again partnering with the Milton Community Resource Centre for its Summer of Giving Campaign in support of the Infant Food Bank.
Residents are encouraged to donate diapers (sizes 2-6), baby formula and baby food pouches at any library branch or through the campaign’s online donation options.
“Libraries are about supporting the whole community,” adds Douglas-Murray. “Whether it’s helping children build a love of reading, giving teens opportunities to explore independently, or supporting families in need, these initiatives reflect the power of community connection.”
