Two people from Quebec are facing charges after an auto theft investigation connected to the theft of a Toyota Sequoia SUV in Oakville.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) says the SUV was stolen overnight on Monday, May 25th after suspects smashed a window and used a reprogramming device to start and steal the vehicle. Investigators tracked the suspects to East York, where officers conducted surveillance and identified additional stolen vehicles allegedly connected to the suspects.
On Wednesday, May 27th, police arrested 23-year-old Thyson Joseph of Quebec and charged him with:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 (two counts)
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking (two counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Joseph was already bound by two separate release orders related to previous auto theft charges and was held for a bail hearing in Milton.
Police also arrested another 23-year-old from Quebec, and charged them with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Investigators executed a search warrant at an East York residence and seized:
- An Acura sedan stolen from Montreal
- An Acura SUV stolen from Peel Region
- A reprogramming device
- Stolen licence plates
- Additional stolen property
