Lake Ontario, via Google Maps
Communities along the Lake Ontario shoreline are being invited to help shape a long-term plan to address increasing risks from flooding, erosion, and extreme weather.
The Lake Ontario Coastal Resilience Pilot Project is a joint effort led by Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, Conservation Halton, and Hamilton Conservation Authority, in collaboration with Conservation Ontario and other regional partners. The initiative will cover roughly 100 kilometres of shoreline from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Oakville.
Funded through Natural Resources Canada, the project aims to develop a Coastal Resilience Management Plan that outlines strategies to better protect communities, infrastructure, and natural environments from climate-related impacts.
Over the coming years, the project will combine scientific analysis with local input to better understand shoreline hazards and identify both short- and long-term solutions.
Residents, businesses, and community groups are encouraged to take part through surveys, interactive mapping tools, and public consultations.
In-person open houses are scheduled for May 5th in St. Catharines and Grimsby, May 6th in Hamilton, and May 7th in Burlington and Oakville, where residents can learn more and share their feedback.
