The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) is celebrating a successful fundraising effort after its CEO completed a 100-kilometre cycling journey across the region in support of local students.
Marc Clare joined eight other riders for the “Tour de Halton” on Thursday, April 23rd, travelling through communities including Acton, Georgetown, Milton, and Oakville before finishing in Burlington. The ride aimed to raise awareness and funds for students in need within the Halton District School Board.
“This ride is a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together,” says Clare. “When we support students with essentials like food, clothing, and school opportunities, we are giving them the chance to focus on learning and thrive.”
The Tour de Halton is part of HLF Month, a series of fundraising initiatives held throughout April. This year, more than 63 school and community teams have participated, raising over $22,000 so far. Clare’s personal goal is $5,000, which would help provide emergency financial assistance to approximately 20 students.
So far this school year, the foundation says it has supported nearly 2,200 students facing financial barriers.
The campaign continues with the upcoming “Students in the Spotlight” event on Wednesday, April 29th at Burlington Central High School, featuring student performances and artwork while raising additional funds.
Donations made during HLF Month, including the upcoming event, are being matched by belairdirect up to $10,000, doubling the impact for students across the region.
