Conservation Halton has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2026, marking the second consecutive year the organization has received the national recognition.
The award, presented as part of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers program, highlights organizations that demonstrate leadership in environmental sustainability and workplace culture.
“Sustainability is at the heart of conservation, which is why this national recognition is so meaningful to Conservation Halton,” says President and CEO Chandra Sharma. “Our leadership in building community resilience to climate change and advancing sustainability education demonstrates that environmental conservation is achievable through incremental actions and collective engagement.”
Employers are evaluated based on environmental initiatives, success in reducing their footprint, employee involvement, and how sustainability is integrated into their public identity.
In 2025, Conservation Halton restored more than 93 hectares of floodplain, forest and wetland, rehabilitated over three kilometres of streams, and planted more than 54,000 native trees and shrubs. The organization has also made upgrades to facilities to reduce carbon emissions and is working to green its vehicle fleet.
Staff engagement remains a key part of the organization’s approach, with employees participating in eco-challenges and tree planting initiatives, alongside access to wellness programs and conservation park memberships.
The recognition follows another recent honour, as Conservation Halton was also named a Hamilton-Niagara Top Employer earlier this year.
