A 42-year-old man from Beaverton is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop in Bradford West Gwillimbury led to a broader investigation involving fraudulent licence plates.
The South Simcoe Police Service says the vehicle was initially stopped on Bridge Street on Wednesday, April 15th after an officer noticed a licence plate violation and tinted cover. The driver was cooperative, but officers later determined the plates were fraudulent replicas linked to a previous owner.
Investigators connected the accused to a previous fail-to-remain collision in Durham Region and unpaid offence notices tied to plates no longer in his possession. Police also allege the man returned to the vehicle hours after the initial stop and drove it again using plates taken from another vehicle.
He was arrested the following day and now faces several criminal charges, including fraud and identity-related offences, in addition to multiple Highway Traffic Act violations such as driving without a licence and operating an uninsured vehicle.
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in July.
