Students from the Halton District School Board (HDSB) are being recognized for their achievements at the 2026 Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair, earning top honours and advancing to national and international competitions.
The annual STEM-focused event saw 160 student projects submitted, with 85 receiving awards and more than $16,000 in prizes and scholarships to institutions such as McMaster University and University of Ottawa.
Top honours went to Abbey Park High School students, with Grade 9 student Jordan LeBlanc earning Best in Fair for a project focused on predicting Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease using AI, while Grade 11 student Krishangi Oberoi was named Second Best in Fair for her immunotherapy research project.
Ten projects from HDSB students have advanced to the Canada-Wide Science Fair, while two projects will move on to the international level, showcasing the strength of STEM learning across Halton schools.
Students from several schools, including Abbey Park High School, Iroquois Ridge High School, Oakville Trafalgar High School, White Oaks Secondary School, and Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School, were recognized for projects spanning robotics, artificial intelligence, medical research, and environmental science.
