More residents in Halton Hills can now access dialysis treatment from home following an expansion of Halton Healthcare’s home hemodialysis program.
The program has been extended to serve patients in Georgetown and Acton, allowing more individuals to receive life-sustaining care without the need for frequent travel to hospital. Officials say the expansion is aimed at improving access and making treatment more convenient for patients managing kidney disease.
Home hemodialysis offers greater flexibility and independence, helping reduce travel time and easing the physical and emotional strain often associated with ongoing treatment.
“As the need for kidney care in our region grows, we are focused on expanding services that put patients first,” says Maria Doyle, Patient Care Manager, Independent Dialysis & Nephrology Clinics. “Programs like this support independence and helping patients live fuller lives while receiving the care they need where they are most comfortable.”
Since launching in 2020, the assisted home hemodialysis program has provided patients with support from a specialized renal care team, including Registered Practical Nurses who monitor each treatment session to ensure safe and effective care.
The expansion means fewer trips to Halton Healthcare’s Oakville hospital site for residents in Georgetown and Acton, as the organization continues to bring more care options closer to home through community-based initiatives.
