Hundreds of students will take part in a Sports Festival in Milton aimed at promoting inclusion and physical activity.
The Halton District School Board (HDSB), in partnership with Special Olympics Ontario, is hosting the event on Wednesday, March 25th and Thursday, March 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Milton Velodrome. The festival is designed for elementary students with special education needs and provides an introduction to sport in a fun, non-competitive environment.
Organized by Special Olympics Ontario, the event focuses on building confidence, encouraging participation and supporting physical literacy development for young athletes with intellectual or physical disabilities. It also offers families an opportunity to learn more about community programming and supports available through Special Olympics.
“The Halton District School Board is excited to once again host the Sports Festival for elementary students with special education needs,” says Curtis Ennis, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. “This event celebrates student achievement with participants building confidence, connecting with peers and demonstrating their skills, strengths and abilities. These opportunities play an important role in fulfilling our commitments through the 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan. We look forward to seeing students take part, enjoy the experience and be celebrated for all they accomplish at the SOO Sports Festival.”
