Nottawasaga OPP are warning residents about a scam involving callers impersonating family members in distress to demand bail money.
The fraud involves scammers posing as a loved one who claims to have been arrested, followed by another individual pretending to be a lawyer requesting cash for bail. In some cases, additional money is demanded using false claims of serious injury or death.
Officers stress that this is a scam, noting that police, courts and lawyers will never request cash pickups or banking information.
Residents who receive such calls are advised not to provide personal or financial information, to hang up immediately, contact police and verify the safety of their family member directly.
Police are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and share the warning to help protect others.
