The Milton Menace have officially completed their comeback!
It’s been a tough series for the boys, who found themselves down 2-0 to the Burlington Cougars after the first two games, and again down 3-1 after four. That meant the Menace had to win out in order to advance to the second round of the OJHL Playoffs.
On Wednesday, March 18th, the Menace hosted Game #7 at the Milton Memorial Arena. Ashtyn Pacheco opened the scoring early in the first period, giving Milton a 1-0 lead just 2:20 into the game. Burlington quickly responded, but Josh Currie regained the lead for the Menace, allowing them to enter the first intermission up 2-1.
In the second period, Sam Pye gave the Menace some cushion, making it 3-1. They used that two-goal lead to their advantage by shutting down all attempts at any offence for the Cougars.
Just nine total shots made it on goal in the third period across both teams, with the Menace only mustering one of those shots. That turtling defence allowed Milton to shut down Burlington’s scoring chances and gave them the 3-1 Game #7 victory.
Austin McKillop was back in net for the Menace. He had his best game of the postseason, stopping 38 of 39 shots for a .974% save percentage and the win.
We now wait for the second round schedule to be released. We’ll update you when that happens.
