Construction has officially begun on the expanded facility at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, marking a major milestone for health care in New Tecumseth.
Town officials, project partners and provincial representatives recently gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the start of construction on the redevelopment project, which will be built on the hospital’s existing property.
“This is a proud and meaningful day for New Tecumseth,” says New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross. “The start of construction on this new hospital facility reflects years of collaboration and advocacy, and we are sincerely grateful to the Province of Ontario for its leadership and investment. This project strengthens local health care and supports the patients, families, and health care professionals who depend on Stevenson Memorial Hospital every day.”
Once completed, the new state-of-the-art facility will increase patient bed capacity by 20%, feature all single-occupancy patient rooms, and include modern technology and equipment to support patient care.
Hospital Supervisor Carmine Stumpo says the upgraded facility will help staff and physicians continue delivering high-quality care to patients across the region.
Construction is expected to continue over the next several years, with the project anticipated to be completed by late 2028.
