A Burlington retiree is celebrating a $50,000 lottery win after matching numbers in a recent Ontario 49 draw.
William Drouin won the second prize of $50,000 in the January 24th draw of Ontario 49.
“When I pulled up the winning numbers and began checking my ticket, I realized my numbers were a match,” he said while collecting his winnings at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Prize Centre in Toronto. “I wasn’t sure how much I’d won at first. I thought it was maybe $5,000 until I scrolled to the bottom of the webpage and found out it was $50,000.”
The first person the 78-year-old shared the news with was his partner.
“She couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Winning is such a good feeling, and this prize will make retirement more comfortable.”
He plans to use the money to pay some bills, save for the future, and celebrate with a steak dinner.
The winning ticket was purchased at New York News on Guelph Line in Burlington.
