The Halton District School Board (HDSB) has elected Melody Liu and Jay Xu as Student Trustees for the 2026 – 2027 school year.
The pair were chosen by their peers in an online vote held Thursday, February 19th, which featured 22 candidates and saw approximately 3,968 students cast ballots. Liu is a Grade 10 student at Oakville Trafalgar High School, while Xu, a Grade 11 student at White Oaks Secondary School, is returning for a second term after serving as Student Trustee this year.
Their new term officially begins August 1st, 2026.
In a statement, Liu said she is honoured by the trust placed in her and looks forward to representing student voices across Halton. Xu said he is grateful for the continued support and is eager to work alongside fellow trustees and students to create positive change. Board Chair Amy Collard congratulated both students, noting Student Trustees play an integral role in ensuring student perspectives are heard at the Board table.
