The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested three individuals and is searching for a fourth suspect following an investigation into a series of copper wire thefts across Milton and Halton Hills.
Police say that in 2025, more than 40 incidents of copper wire theft were reported in North Halton. The thefts involved suspects cutting down telecommunication cable lines, salvaging the copper and selling it for profit.
In early January 2026, investigators launched a focused probe into a network of individuals suspected of being involved. Through a combination of investigative techniques, Crime Stoppers tips and front-line police work, officers identified multiple suspects connected to the theft and sale of stolen copper wire.
On January 30th, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of copper wire theft in the area of Canyon Road and Campbell Avenue in Milton, where two suspects were arrested and charged.
The following day, they executed search warrants on two vehicles and two residences in Guelph and Erin. Investigators seized tools, copper wire and electronic devices believed to be connected to the offences. A third suspect was arrested during the searches.
36-year-old Brendan Boyd of Guelph was charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000 (2 counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Trafficking (2 counts)
- Fail to Comply with Undertaking (3 counts)
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (methamphetamines)
43-year-old Benjamin Moffatt of Guelph was charged with:
- Theft Under $5,000
36-year-old Dawna Mitchell of Erin was charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000 (2 counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Trafficking (2 counts)
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
All three were held in custody pending bail hearings in Milton.
Investigators are continuing to search for a fourth suspect, 29-year-old Christopher Lennon of Halton Hills, who is wanted for:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Trafficking
