A New Tecumseth parent and youth are facing charges following a collision involving an electric dirt bike that left a pedestrian injured.
Back on July 25th, 2025, officers with the Nottawasaga OPP responded to an emergency call after an electric motorcycle struck a pedestrian. The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team assisted with the investigation.
Police determined that a 13-year-old was operating an electric dirt bike on a public roadway at the time of the collision. Investigators also learned the bike had been purchased by a parent, who allowed the youth to ride it on the road.
As a result, a 43-year-old from New Tecumseth has been charged with:
-
Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm
The accused is scheduled to appear in a Bradford court at a later date.
The 13-year-old has also been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
-
Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm
Police are reminding residents that electric dirt bikes are classified as motor vehicles under Ontario law. As such:
- They cannot be operated on public roads unless properly plated, insured and equipped to meet safety standards.
- Operators must hold the appropriate class of motorcycle licence.
- These vehicles are generally intended for off-road use (if registered and insured) or private property, unless fully road-legal.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure youth riders operate such vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws.
