The Town of Innisfil’s Economic Development Office has received provincial recognition for its work to boost investment and job creation.
The Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) presented the Planning and Strategic Development – Rural Category Award of Excellence to the Town for its Innisfil Heights Investment Readiness Initiative during its annual conference earlier this month.
Mayor Lynn Dollin said the award reflects the progress being made to attract new jobs and investment, noting the initiative has generated increased development interest in Innisfil Heights. The program focuses on identifying and reducing barriers to development in the Town’s strategic employment area through collaboration with internal planning staff, utility partners including InnPower and InnServices, and support from the County of Simcoe Economic Development Office and regional post-secondary institutions.
Manager of Economic Development Laura Thompson said the Town’s collaborative, rural-focused approach sets it apart. To date, approximately 60% of the initiative’s action items have been advanced, including the creation of new commercial and industrial land inventories and the launch of a Site Selection Response Team.
The initiative has already helped attract major investment, including a $207-million manufacturing facility from Northern Transformer Corporation expected to create more than 150 local jobs.
In addition, Economic Development Champion Lauren McEachern received EDCO’s Bright Ideas Award for her team’s work on a toolkit aimed at fostering interprovincial trade in response to tariff impacts on the Canadian economy.
