A 33-year-old Innisfil man is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a collision in Barrie late Thursday night.
Barrie Police say officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Dunlop Street West shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5th, where both vehicles sustained significant damage but no injuries were reported. One of the drivers reportedly fled on foot behind a nearby building, attempting to evade officers by running and jumping over several fences. Police say the man was arrested less than 10 minutes after officers arrived on scene without further incident.
While taking the accused into custody, officers detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters, where a qualified breathalyzer technician confirmed he was well over the legal alcohol limit. The man has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (over 80)
- Failure to stop after an accident
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle involved has been impounded for seven days under the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension program, as police continue to encourage residents to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
