The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton (HSOMH) has received a $10 million donation from longtime supporter Klaus Bytzek.
It’s the largest gift in the organization’s history.
HSOMH says the donation will benefit pets and the people who care for them across the community for generations. Bytzek has supported the shelter for many years, and the organization describes the gift as a transformative contribution that will significantly advance its mission.
“This is an extraordinary gift from a truly remarkable philanthropist,” says Jeff Vallentin, executive director of HSOMH. “Mr. Bytzek’s compassion for animals is evident in his actions, and he has shared his hope that this generosity will inspire many others to give.”
The donation comes as HSOMH plans for a new, modern animal centre after selling its current property to the Town of Oakville. According to the organization, the future facility is intended to better meet the growing needs of the region, expand capacity to care for animals, support more families, and deliver enhanced programs and services in a purpose-built space.
HSOMH says Bytzek’s gift provides lead support for the project while also helping fund current operations, including the care, treatment, and comfort of animals presently at the shelter.
“It is a powerful vote of confidence in our mission,” adds Vallentin. “Mr. Bytzek’s generosity brings us significantly closer to realizing a new shelter and ensures a bright future for the animals and families who rely on us.”
