Matthews House Hospice in Alliston is seeing tangible improvements to accessibility and safety thanks to a $107,000 provincial capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
On Thursday, February 5th, Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson visited the hospice to view the results of the funding, which was awarded last summer and is being used to complete flooring upgrades on both the main and lower levels of the facility. The work includes repairing subflooring on the main level and replacing carpet with vinyl flooring in two lower-level rooms, improvements aimed at making the space safer and easier to navigate for residents, families, clients and visitors who use mobility aids.
“Strong communities are built on compassion, and the staff and volunteers at Matthews House Hospice exemplify that every day,” says Saunderson. “This provincial investment supports practical improvements that will make a meaningful difference for everyone who walks through the door.”
Phase one of the main floor construction was completed this past November, with remaining work scheduled for the spring. Hospice officials say the upgrades address long-standing mobility challenges in key areas of the building.
“We are so appreciative and grateful to have the opportunity to receive this support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation,” says Margaret Bachle, Chief Executive Officer of Matthews House Hospice. “These projects will help the hospice enhance the care and service to our clients, their family, and friends.”
Matthews House Hospice is located in Alliston and serves South Simcoe, including New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Essa and Innisfil.
