Barrie Police have charged three youths following an armed robbery at Maple Ridge Secondary School.
Officers responded to the school on Prince William Way shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 2nd. The school was placed into lockdown while officers conducted an immediate investigation, and three teenage boys, aged 15, 16 and 17, were arrested at the scene. A handgun was also recovered during the investigation.
Two of the accused are facing multiple charges:
- Robbery using Firearm (Restricted or Prohibited)
- Firearm – Use while committing offence
- Pointing a Firearm
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon at Unauthorized Place
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
The third accused is charged with:
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
The identities of the youths are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Police remained on scene throughout the day as the investigation continued. At roughly 1:00 p.m., the school was placed into a hold and secure status to allow officers to conduct a thorough search of the building for additional evidence. Students were dismissed at their regular time without incident.
Barrie police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety, and thanked the school community and parents for their cooperation during the investigation.
