County of Simcoe Warden Basil Clarke has officially proclaimed February 2026 as Black History Month across the county.
Black History Month is observed annually across Canada, and 2026 marks a milestone year, celebrating 30 years since the federal recognition of Black History Month. The County says the anniversary adds special significance to this year’s programming and reflections.
Throughout February, the Simcoe County Museum will host a free virtual lecture series exploring the history and experiences of Black communities in Simcoe County and across Canada. The series will feature guest speakers and local historians, with each session including a 30- to 45-minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer period. Details on speakers, topics, and how to participate are available here.
In addition, the Simcoe County Archives has made available a curated online resource titled Guide to Black History Research at the Simcoe County Archives, offering residents tools and information to explore local Black history through archival records.
