A 21-year-old Milton man is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop in downtown Guelph over the weekend.
Guelph police say officers were patrolling the downtown area just before 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24th when they observed a vehicle making a turn at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was asked to provide a roadside breath sample, which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and taken to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
As a result, the Miltonian has been charged with impaired driving. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in court in February.
The Guelph Police Service is reminding the public to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or cannabis and to avoid driving while impaired. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is urged to call 911 immediately.
