The Milton Menace were to able to get a big performance from their captain this week.
On Wednesday, January 21st, the team welcomed in the Mississauga Chargers for a day game at the Milton Memorial Arena.
It was Nathan Catalano who opened the scoring just 1:32 into the game. His 9th goal of the year was assisted by Captain Graeme MacAuley and the recently acquired Wolf Giles. MacAuley then followed that up with a goal of his own. The powerplay marker was assisted by Jacob Strizzi and goaltender Austin McKillop. Milton led the game 2-0 after 20 minutes of action.
In the second period, Milton was able to outpace the Chargers, outshooting them 17-9. It didn’t lead any additional offence in the period, and the Chargers got themselves on the board just before intermission. The Menace were up 2-1 heading into the final frame.
The third period was a tight one, with Gavin Sheehan giving the Menace some insurance late thanks to an empty net goal, assisted by Tristan Tremble and MacAuley. They needed it, as just over a minute later, the Chargers would get one back. It’d be too little too late, as the Menace beat the Chargers 3-2.
Along with his first assist of the year, McKillop stopped 24 of 26 shots for the .923% save percentage and the win. He’s 19-4-1-0 through 25 games played, with a .939% save percentage and 1.86 GAA.
Milton now sits in 2nd place in the West Conference with a record of 31-8-2-1 in 42 games played.
Next up for the Menace is another home game. They host the 1st place Toronto Patriots on Friday, January 23rd at the Milton Memorial Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
