The Town of Milton is inviting residents, businesses, and the development community to share their input on two draft strategies aimed at helping fund infrastructure and services needed to support the town’s continued growth.
Milton is in the process of updating its Development Charges (DC) Background Study and by-law, while also preparing a Community Benefits Charges (CBC) Strategy. The CBC strategy could lead to a new by-law that would generate revenue from higher-density developments.
Development charges are used by municipalities to recover the costs of growth-related infrastructure such as roads, recreation facilities, parks, libraries, fire services, and transit. Community benefits charges are intended to help fund capital costs associated with higher-density development.
The draft strategies are now available for public review on Let’s Talk Milton. Community members are encouraged to review the documents, participate in upcoming engagement sessions or statutory meetings, submit comments through the online feedback forum, subscribe for project updates, or contact the Town’s Development Finance team with questions.
Town staff held the first engagement session on December 1st, where the project timeline, legal framework, and growth forecasts were outlined. A second engagement session is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Milton Room at Town Hall, with an option to attend online via Microsoft Teams. During this session, staff will present preliminary findings from both the DC and CBC strategies.
Key upcoming dates include a statutory public meeting on February 9th, a deadline for public feedback on March 6th, and a staff report to Milton Town Council on April 13th, seeking approval of the related by-laws.
