Conestoga College President Dr. John Tibbits admiring Milton Mayor Gord Krantz (out-of-frame) for his lengthy tenure
Conestoga College has announced that President John Tibbits has officially retired.
The move was effective Wednesday, January 14th, concluding a 40-year career dedicated to the institution and its students.
Tibbits shared his decision with students and employees, thanking the Conestoga community for its support throughout his tenure. He had originally planned to retire in December 2024 but delayed his departure to ensure continuity during a period of transition. “Serving Conestoga has been the privilege of my professional life,” Tibbits said, adding that he is confident the college is well-positioned for the future.
On behalf of the Board of Governors, Chair Martha George expressed appreciation for Tibbits’ leadership and long-standing commitment to students and staff. She said his work helped shape Conestoga and strengthen its role in preparing learners with the skills needed to support Ontario and Canada’s competitiveness.
The Board has launched a comprehensive executive search, to be conducted by global leadership firm Boyden. In the interim, Norma McDonald Ewing, Vice President, Institutional Strategy & Engagement, Chief of Staff and Secretary General to the Board of Governors, will serve as Interim President.
Conestoga College operates two campuses in Milton, located on Parkhill Drive and Steeles Avenue, as well as the IELTS Centre on Main Street East. The college says it remains focused on supporting students and employees while continuing to deliver programs that meet the evolving needs of learners, employers, and communities.
