Christmas trees donated to Conservation Halton (2021)
The holidays may be over, but residents can still put their Christmas trees to good use by taking part in an annual tree drop-off event this weekend.
On Saturday, January 10th, you’re invited to drop off your natural Christmas trees between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Conservation Halton administrative office, located at 2596 Britannia Road in Burlington.
Rather than ending up as waste, the donated trees will be repurposed by the organization’s Restoration team to create sediment mats. The trees are wrapped and staked together with twine to form natural barriers that help prevent erosion, improve water quality, and provide habitat for wildlife in restoration areas such as Limestone Creek.
Organizers are reminding residents to ensure all trees are free of ornaments, tinsel, lights, and other decorations before dropping them off.
The initiative offers a simple, environmentally friendly way for residents to extend the impact of the holiday season while supporting local conservation and restoration efforts.
