Police in York Region have laid additional charges in a wide-ranging investigation into a series of overnight residential break-ins that targeted vacant homes across multiple jurisdictions, including Halton.
Investigators with the York Regional Police Integrated Property Crime Task Force say Project Lone Wolf began in October 2024 after a spike in coordinated break and enters at unoccupied homes during fall and winter months. Police allege the suspects disabled alarm systems and security cameras by cutting wires and using radio-frequency jammers, stealing items such as jewelry, handbags and cash that could be quickly moved to waiting vehicles. The investigation involved cooperation with Durham Regional Police, Halton Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police to identify suspects and potential victims.
On November 19th, 2025, the primary suspect, Sean Mackey of Toronto, was arrested on outstanding warrants and has since been charged in connection with 28 residential break and enters dating from January 2024 to October 2025. Investigators say an additional suspect has now been charged as the investigation continues. A search warrant executed at a Toronto residence resulted in the recovery of stolen property, and police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
Anyone who experienced an overnight residential break and enter involving rear glass doors between April and November 2025 is asked to review photos of recovered property. A verification process will be required before any items are returned.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Integrated Property Crime Task Force at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7232. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
