The Town of Milton is seeking public input on the first full draft of its new Official Plan, a document that will guide growth and development in the community through 2051.
The draft plan incorporates extensive community input collected over several years and includes new and updated policies related to land use, housing, transportation, retail, parks, and infrastructure. It also integrates policies previously found in the Halton Region Official Plan. Residents, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to review the document and share feedback as the Town works toward finalizing the plan.
Key features of the draft include updated land-use categories to help build complete communities, a framework for evaluating private requests to expand Milton’s urban boundary, and new secondary planning policies to support phased growth. The plan also sets affordable housing targets, introduces measures to protect commercial space, and establishes transportation policies that promote transit-supportive development. Together, these updates aim to guide growth while ensuring the community remains livable, connected, and sustainable.
Milton residents can participate in virtual information sessions on Thursday, January 8th, from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., and Monday, January 12th, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. You can also attend in-person open houses on Wednesday, January 14th, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nassagaweya Community Centre, and Thursday, January 15th, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Town Hall. More information, including the full draft plan and feedback tools, is available on Let’s Talk Milton.
Council will hold a statutory open house and public meeting in the spring, as required under the Planning Act, before considering adoption of the new Official Plan.
