Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 4, Sameera Ali, has announced she will run for Mayor in the 2026 municipal election.
First elected in 2018 as a Town Councillor, Ali highlighted her work supporting investments in infrastructure, including roads, parks, stormwater systems, transit, and community spaces. She has also advocated for affordable housing, environmental protections, and greater transparency at town hall. In addition to her council role, she currently serves on the Halton Police Board.
She’s no stranger to stepping out of her comfort zone with elections, having won her current Regional Council seat in 2022, and previously running for Milton MPP in 2022, narrowly missing out on the seat by a ~4% voter share, losing to Parm Gill.
If elected, Ali said her priorities would include strengthening infrastructure and local services, supporting economic development, attracting new businesses, and keeping taxes low. Her campaign platform, “Made in Milton,” is based on input from residents, businesses, and community groups.
The announcement sets up a potential challenge to longtime mayor Gord Krantz, who has led the town since 1980 and has not yet confirmed whether he will seek re-election. In the last election, Krantz narrowly defeated challenger Zee Hamid, who is now Milton MPP.
The next municipal election is scheduled for October 26th, 2026.
