The Ontario government is directing all school boards to create Student and Family Support Offices to give parents and guardians a clearer, faster way to resolve concerns about their child’s education.
These offices will serve as a direct point of contact for families when issues remain unresolved after speaking with teachers or principals, as well as for broader community concerns.
“Better access for parents means better outcomes for students,” said Education Minister Paul Calandra, adding that the initiative is part of the province’s back-to-basics plan to strengthen student achievement and modernize school board governance.
The first offices will open in January at five supervised school boards: Dufferin-Peel Catholic, Ottawa-Carleton, Thames Valley, Toronto Catholic, and Toronto District. Other boards must submit implementation plans by March 31st, with offices in place by next September. Each office will be led by a supervisory officer and will aim to acknowledge inquiries within two business days and respond within five.
