School bus drivers with First Student Canada in Georgetown, represented by Unifor Local 4268, have ratified their first three-year collective agreement with 83% support, securing a 13% wage increase over the life of the contract.
The deal covers 110 part-time drivers who service local school boards, including Halton Catholic, Halton District, and select French boards, transporting about 6,000 students in Georgetown, Milton, and Acton. The contract also includes three paid sick days, an additional holiday for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and a $400 ratification bonus.
“Congratulations to the bargaining committee for standing up for our members and negotiating a first contract that helps bring some financial stability in these uncertain times,” says Unifor National President Lana Payne. Local President Debbie Montgomery called the agreement “a great start in helping school bus drivers make gains in a low-wage industry.”
The contract, which expires August 31st, 2028, follows recent ratifications by Unifor members at First Student locations in Owen Sound and Kincardine.
