The Kitchener GO Line that rolls through Acton and Georgetown is seeing some upgrades in service.
The Ontario government has reached an Agreement-in-Principle with CN Rail to purchase land needed for the construction of dedicated GO train tracks along the Kitchener Line.
As part of the expansion, new GO train service will be added in November, including 18 additional weekend trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station, plus the first-ever weekend service to Kitchener. Beginning November 23rd, trains will run every 30 minutes between Bramalea and Union Station, with four weekend trips extended through to Kitchener. Two new weekday trips and extensions to existing routes will also improve commuter options.
The Kitchener Extension Project includes 40 km of new two-way track, signal upgrades, bridge work and station expansions. Once complete, it will provide:
- 30-minute, two-way service to Mount Pleasant GO, seven days a week
- 60-minute, two-way service to Kitchener GO, seven days a week
- Additional peak-time trains to reduce rush-hour congestion
The project is part of Ontario’s $70-billion transit expansion, the largest in North America, with improvements across the province from Barrie to Niagara, Kitchener, Oshawa and Toronto.
