The Darling Home for Kids has officially launched Phase 3 construction, marking a major step in its mission to support children with complex medical needs.
Partnering with industry leader SKYGRiD Construction Inc., the project will add 10,000 square feet to the facility, increasing overnight capacity from 12 to 16 beds and creating new therapeutic and family-focused spaces.
The expansion, thoughtfully designed by Red Studio Inc Architects, includes new bedrooms, therapy areas, an expanded medication room, a bright four-seasons room, and multi-use areas for counselling, admissions, and family meetings. With more than 70,000 children in Ontario considered medically complex, demand for specialized care continues to grow, making this project vital for families across the province.
“The expansion of The Darling Home for Kids will transform our Home and allow us to meet the ever-growing need for services in our community,” says Kristin Horrell, CEO. “Every brick, wall, and door is the result of hardworking trades and partners who have stood with us since the beginning.”
The construction industry, alongside SKYGRiD, is being celebrated for its generosity through donations and gifts-in-kind. SKYGRiD has supported the Home through multiple phases of growth, continuing its long-standing commitment to building a one-of-a-kind space where children can receive specialized care in a home-like environment.
Construction is now underway and scheduled for completion by Summer 2026.
