The Alliston Food Bank is sounding the alarm over a sharp increase in hunger across the community.
In 2025, more than 1,100 individuals turned to the food bank for support – nearly three times the number seen in 2018. That includes 349 children, 131 seniors, and even 53 homeowners struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living. Volunteers say hunger in Alliston isn’t about effort, but about families, seniors, and workers being left behind by financial pressures.
Every visit to the food bank represents more than just food – it offers dignity, relief, and the reassurance that someone cares. The organization stresses that donations help keep shelves stocked with essentials like fresh milk and produce, while monthly giving ensures stability year-round.
Residents can support the cause by donating in person at 52 Wellington Street West, by mailing cheques to PO Box 28, or by e-transfer to donations@allistonfoodbank.com. Online donations are also accepted here.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the Thanksgiving Food Drive happening Friday, October 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at FreshCo and Zehrs in Alliston. Seasonal staples and kid-friendly snacks will be collected to fill baskets for local families in need.
