Police have charged a 30-year-old woman following an alleged attempted carjacking at the Mill Pond Medical Centre in New Tecumseth this week.
The Nottawasaga OPP say they were called to the medical centre on Victoria Street West around 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22nd, after an altercation broke out between an elderly couple and the woman. Investigators determined the accused had tried to steal the couple’s idling vehicle while one of them was still seated inside, leading to a confrontation.
The woman of no fixed address was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, mischief under $5,000, and theft of a motor vehicle. They were taken into custody and are being held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.
Police are reminding residents not to leave their vehicles unlocked or idling, even briefly, as thefts can occur within seconds and pose significant safety risks.
Anyone with information about unlawful activity is asked to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestopperssdm.com.
