Mobility Hub rendering from 2020 Milton Town Council meeting
Milton is taking major strides toward building a more diverse, resilient, and connected community, with a focus on housing, education, and economic development.
A recent Council report highlights significant progress in these key priority areas as part of the Town’s long-term commitment to sustainable growth.
On the housing front, Milton is concentrating higher-density developments along major routes, creating more options at different price points while supporting transit use and walkable neighbourhoods. Uptown, a new mixed-use community within a 10-minute walk of Milton GO Station, is a prime example of this approach. The Town continues to exceed provincial housing targets, securing additional infrastructure funding by reaching 126% and 129% of its annual goals in 2023 and 2024.
In education, construction began in 2024 on the Milton Education Village (MEV), a central piece of the Town’s Milton 2051 plan. The MEV will bring together post-secondary education, long-term care, recreation, and active transportation. Conestoga College and Wilfrid Laurier University also opened interim campuses in 2024, with permanent sites planned to serve more than 3,000 students.
“Planned growth is positioning Milton as a progressive, vibrant, and thriving community,” says Jill Hogan, Commissioner of Development Services. “By investing in housing, education, and economic growth, we’re ensuring an excellent quality of life for both current and future residents.”
Milton’s business growth is also accelerating, with 2.8 million square feet of new industrial, commercial, and institutional development in 2024 alone. Companies like Kioti Tractors and HPG are setting up in the Derry Green Corporate Business Park, contributing to nearly 800 new businesses added since 2021 – a 22% increase that strengthens the local tax base.
