The Milton Public Library (MPL) has received funding from the Canada Post Community Foundation, allowing the library to expand inclusive programming and services for children who are neurodiverse.
The grant will support more sensory-friendly story times across all three library branches and the creation of a dedicated sensory-friendly drop-in space at the Main Library.
“Milton is one of the fastest-growing and most diverse communities in Canada, and this support from the Canada Post Community Foundation helps us better meet the needs of families in our town,” says Sarah Douglas-Murray, CEO and Chief Librarian of MPL. “We’ve heard directly from our community that more programming is needed for children with sensory sensitivities, and this project is an important step toward addressing that gap.”
Unlike traditional sit-and-listen formats, sensory-friendly story times incorporate movement, hands-on activities, and calming materials to create a more engaging and supportive environment. The new drop-in sensory space will also provide children with a calming area designed to reduce stress and promote wellbeing.
Find the Main library branch at 1010 Main Street East in Milton.
