The Town of Halton Hills has presented a $7,308.08 Façade Improvement grant to FOLIAGE, a locally-owned houseplant boutique on Mill Street, and the building’s owners as part of the Town’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP).
The cheque was officially presented on Thursday, August 28th by Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor, Councillors Norris, Garneau, and Fogal, alongside the Town’s Economic Development Division.
The grant supported the replacement of two commercial-grade aluminum and glass doors and two large windows with new insulated, double-paned glass. These upgrades not only enhance the storefront’s appearance but also significantly improve energy efficiency.
“The improvements at FOLIAGE are a perfect example of what happens when building owners support business owners ensuring that their storefront is vibrant and welcoming,” says Mayor Lawlor.
Founded by Cheryl Discenza, FOLIAGE has become a popular destination for curated houseplants, sustainable practices, and a warm, welcoming shopping experience. Discenza expressed her gratitude to the Town, noting the grant process was “supportive, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping local businesses thrive.”
The CIP is designed to support revitalization, attract investment, and encourage redevelopment across Halton Hills. For every $1 invested by the Town, up to $6 in private sector investment can be leveraged, helping to foster economic growth and strengthen the community’s downtown cores.
