Halton Region officially opened its newest assisted and supportive housing development at 265 Kerr Street in Oakville, marking a significant step in addressing the housing needs of seniors and vulnerable residents.
The 52-unit building includes 22 supportive housing units and a Community Wellness Hub operated by Links2Care, offering social, recreational, and health education services through the Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team.
Local dignitaries and partners attended the event, including Halton Regional Councillor Paul Sharman on behalf of Regional Chair Gary Carr, members of Regional and Oakville Councils, Elizabeth Chalmers representing MP Anita Anand, and Laura Smith representing Ontario’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
“The 265 Kerr Street development is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together,” says Chair Carr, thanking federal and provincial partners for their collaboration.
The project was jointly funded by all three levels of government:
- $16.4 million from Halton Region
- $14.9 million from the Province of Ontario (including $11.9 million through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative)
- $9.3 million from the federal government through CMHC’s Rapid Housing Initiative
The opening aligns with Halton Region’s broader housing strategy, which includes four assisted rental housing projects under construction, four shovel-ready projects totaling 548 units, and additional developments in pre-planning. The Region is also investing in water and wastewater infrastructure to support the creation of 92,500 new housing units by 2031 across Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville.
